Today’s feature comes from Press Fyah. He may be more popularly known as the crowned KING back in 2010, on the local entertainment show Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall. Let’s get to know a bit more about this artist on the rise.
Press Fyah was born Conroy Rennis in the parish of Portland, Jamaica. He is a Reggae/dancehall artiste, song writer and producer.
From very early on Press Fyah had two passions that stood out, the love for music and the love for football. His desire for football subsided in 2003 after he got a job as a fire fighter and realized that there was just not enough time in his schedule for soccer; his only solace was writing music during his lunch hour.
He slowly embraced the idea of becoming a recording artiste and so he started sharing his music in his community. He was later introduced to a group of young artistes who wanted to assist him in improving his craft. Instead, he ended up joining their group; they were known as Space House. Unfortunately, the group did not achieve much success so Press Fyah continued to work as a solo performer even though he maintained a solid relationship with them.
Press Fyah did not have an official artiste name, so most people would refer to him by his pet name Troy. While with the group he began calling himself Xpress but soon learnt that another artiste was already using that name. When he entered the Magnum Kings and Queens competition in 2009 he used the name Fire Press, a name his friends bestowed upon him because he was a fire fighter. As a matter of fact, General Degree (one of the judges on Magnum Kings and Queens) heard his music and suggested that he changed it around and so he did. In that year Press Fyah was selected only for the live show portion of the contest, and did not go any further.
Feeling more confident, Press Fyah re-entered the Magnum Kings and Queens Competition in2010. He was not sure if he would win but thought that the publicity would at least gain him musical exposure, but to everyone’s surprise, including his own, Press Fyah won the competition and was crowned the 2010 Magnum King of Dancehall! He was simply elated with the victory and to this day he refers to that as one of his greatest achievements.
Although, the winning of the Magnum crown in 2010 did not translate into a recording or management contract. Press Fyah remained an unsigned artist and so he committed himself to pushing his music independently, something he continues to do even today.
His catalogue includes “Far Away” on the Starkutt Record Label (Demarco), “Close to Me,” a Sajay Production, the Rainfall Riddim, Compilation by Good Good Production on the Teambritjam Riddim, and that is just to name a few. His most recent release is a single entitled “Road Users” which is on the Charlie Pro Record Label. All his songs are available online for streaming and download.
Press Fyah will continue to hone his talent and looks forward to one day dominating the music industry.
